Dr. Grant Alexander

Senior Scientist

Dr. Grant Alexander joined Actinia as a Senior Scientist and holds a PhD in Materials Chemistry from Northwestern University, where he worked under Prof. Mercouri Kanatzidis, one of Actinia’s founding scientists and advisors. Grant has worked on synthetic chemistry and materials science projects for the last ten years, spanning solution phase to solid-state synthesis. Dr. Alexander’s expertise lies in the synthesis and crystal growth of heavy metal halide semiconductors, where he has worked on known materials and the discovery/characterization of novel phases. Prior to joining Actinia, he completed postdoctoral work at the University of Illinois at Chicago investigating the synthesis and applications of alkali earth spinel oxides and pnictides for ion conduction in the solid state.
With his return to the Evanston area, and to photoactive semiconductors, Grant is responsible for the synthesis and crystal growth of high-quality radiation detection materials, particularly CsPbBr3, at Actinia. His aim is to grow production and retain quality as Actinia expands.
